“Clenching The Fists Of Dissent” starts if off, and i’m impressed, solid thrash, it kind drags a bit on with 10min and it has a slowish middle… but i kinda get it, sort of “lets just make a freaking kick ass first track”… hell its long because it has a bit of everything, from slow burning trash, speed blasting, some Hatebreed public shouting, short burst guitar solos, hell even time to go for a clean vocal section nearing the end, breakdown head-banging end i mean… sweet ride, “Beautiful Mourning” starts pretty well, shouting and here we go, a bit of thrashing and then we get to some heavy rifting with slow singing, then we get a sweetish chorus with some blasting, ok… not so bad… sounds a bit swedish, but not in a “LETS STOP EVERYTHING AND SING LIKE A GIRL MOMENT”, plenty of hardcore breaks and again a smallish guitar solo, and thats pretty much it, again another pretty catchy track, moving on to “Aesthetics Of Hate” starts off pretty well with pure thrash, with a very big solo… all building up to a clean vocal and pretty old school breakdown… again great, now we get “Now I Lay Thee Down” humm a bit more metalcore i guess.. with clean vocal even trough the chorus, still pretty catchy and it kinda seems to be the softest until now, some guitar solos and it gets a bit heavier to the end… humm its ok.

“Slanderous” is a bit of the same with some groovy drum/guitar work to build up, but again more metalcore, some breakish moments, some guitar solos, ends with a clean vocal buildup to… a bit heavier chorus, ahhh its getting kinda formulaic, “Halo” gets us a groovy blast guitar squeal break moving trough the track, that drive us to (probably) the catchiest chorus yet, pretty sweet clean vocal/guitar work… driving again to the groovy riff, midway we get a sort of breakdown to the guitar solos and even these seem to fit well with the rest of the track and to finish it off … yeah you guessed it… again clean vocal to build up to the chorus, its great don’t get me wrong, pretty sweet, but still more than predictable… a hell yeah for this track, “Wolves” starts off like hardcore should, but then goes into metalcore mode again, and then back to more hardcorish riffs, humm it gets better as we move along, we get midway another characteristic break that then merges with the rest of the track, then we get back into thrash, guitar solo and then back to chorus for the end, and that bring us to the last track “A Farewell To Arms” were we get a slow burning guitar/vocal build to the hardcorish slow burn riffing, then again a clean vocal chorus… still catchy, after the second chorus you get the guitar solos, then we speed along to thrash and eventually it dies out… pretty solid end track.

So what did i think of “The Blackening”? well it seems the expression “time heals all”, does have a use heheheh, Machine Head did a fine album, its not groundbreaking, its a bit formulaic (kinda has always the same song structure and it kinda always revolves around thrash/hardcore/swedish melodic metal), it lacks consistency (starts heavy with loads of thrash and ends more near to metalcore), but in the end, its a pretty slick album, even the not so good tracks are solid and there are some very groovy and heavy tracks throughout, so… if you were a fan of Machine Head or you want to listen to some modern thrash, then give this one a go.

Ahh back to some headbashing hehehe, Diskreet is kind of the new wave of death metal, it has a more hardcore/grindcore feel to it, and not so much a leaning technical ability, nevertheless they hail from Kansas USA, and that might mean something to be mad about muahhaha.

Infernal Rise starts pretty good with “Infernal Throne”, its kinda a slow burn blast beat kind of track, pretty good and straightforward, “Infinite Hold” comes next and starts with a guttural blast/slow rifts, then it gets into a more speed up but always with a play with the speed, slowing and speeding, always with prologued drummed blasting or small bursts of blasting, actually the drumming is what shines, its always changing the pattern, pretty nice track, it finishes much like it started, “The Bigger Complex” starts with a sound clip then goes into death blasting, it kinda works like the previous track with a bit more guitar work, but it still feels like its an all drumming thing… “Entrails” starts with the death blasting thing, stops and then picks up again almost all the way through… humm

“Faust” at least starts pretty differently with a more groove metal kind of thing, but damn if the drumming isn’t kinda carrying everyone on their backs, loads of variations of blasting, feels a bit like don caballero but with worse mix between the guitarists and the drummer, it even has those more breakneck kind of breakdowns, “The Nightmare” is a bonus track and it kinda shows, its a bit more straight death metal, but still a pretty solid track, again drums shine like hell, “Promising Demise” is the last track and also a bonus one, and again a bit different from the rest of the album, slower and maybe not even death, more like metalcore even with a cleaner chorus, not so bad, its good as a final track.

Diskreet… humm, well this didn’t WOWed me, and it does feel like its a work in progress, i really cant tell if they are really good, i do like some of the tracks, but it seems like a one trick band, well we will see how they fare with time, i did particularly liked the drumming and hell with this drumming maybe its just a matter of tweaking this and that and they have them selfs a kick ass band, so why not check it out (at least the mp3) hehehe

Hardcore and Punk never brought to the table complex playing or technical ability, it’s not in their nature, but their basis of raw energy and aggression do infuse other genres and metalcore being what it is incorporates (ones more than others) the core part more seriously, that mixture of ability and pure hardcore energy can be found on some one like Misery Signals.

Blá blá, so is the album any good?, It’s good, tracks like the album starter “Face Yourself”, with a mix of odd and brutal, i say odd, because it’s not overly complex, just filled with small touches, that i guess pull them a little bit apart from the mob, “The Failsafe” is also nice, kinda odd drumming (i said odd again?), “Post Collapse” brings back that hardcore feel from the first track, with some bits of death to the mix, again good guitar work, vocals are starting to become one tone (getting boring…), “Migrate” is a softer track with a hardish end, nothing especial.

“One Day I’ll Stay Home” is a bit more of the same, good finish nevertheless, “Something Was Always Missing, But It Was Never You”, has the most idiotic title I’ve seen in quite some time, but not a bad track, ahh the good ones always have fucked up names (“Cannibalistic” anyone?), “Reverence Lost” is good and tiresome, “Sword of Eyes” is a bit more of the same, “An Offering to the Insatiable Sons of God (Butcher)” ohh another interestingly named track, and unlike the previous it’s kinda a interlude like track, too much noise, they might be good, but if it’s all distorted it isn’t anything, “Anchor” is a better than the last track, its got a bit more flare, quite good, then the album finisher and title track “Mirrors”, bit of same o’, nevertheless full of breakdowns…

Did i like it?, well somewhat, its got flare and pace, but the one sided vocals, the grungy production and the oddness although refreshing, it gets overused, like teaching a monkey a trick, after they get it right they just do it over and over again, by the time it gets over … I get over it, i don’t feel like listening again (and that’s not “in a good Meshuggah burnout” kind of way), i actually liked their previous album better, so if you like your metalcore with a bit more spice you might want to checked them out, if not, you won’t lose much.

Ahh, The Autumn Offering? hailing from sunny Florida? and I’m doing this review closer to winter?, well anyway, with such a name what can you expect… you guessed it right, Metalcore, sure they add a lot of other things, and you can cut it anyway you like it, but it’s Metalcore with bit of other things, this is their second album “Embrace the Gutter”, let’s see if its any good.

After a brief “Prologue”, you get “Decay” and what can i say they sure pick nice names, it’s quite the trailblazer, what were they thinking!, I’ll just make some weird guitar riffage and then we’ll get it going, that will be wack, yeah it’s great, if your paralyzed from the neck up, this should be added to the music guide books on “when not to play a guitar solo”, then you get the “The Yearning”, and beat me with a stick if it’s not a another weird track, it all sounds like “live drunk God Forbid doing their last gig of a 2 year tour and they just want to get it over with”, it sounds bad, I’m starting to think it’s not me, it’s these fuckers, “Embrace the Gutter” another shitty track? oh god when they start the chorus i just started laughing, this is just silly, all of it, solos included, oh god i never though Metalcore could sound soo shabby (and this one is downstairs, listen to it, and then say if I’m not right), next please…

“Ghost” is more of the same, just with the added “happy meal” solo guitar, “Misery” is scaring me with it’s Static-X start, with that intro, i just know it’s going to be shitty…. and shit it is, “This Future Disease” is more of the same, “One Last Thrill” well a somewhat nice track, nothing much, although i think i could be losing my ability to judge good music, with every single moment i listen to this “thing”, I’m gonna play it backwards to see if the devil is speaking, “No End in Sight” oh gawd at least the comic relief from the track names keeps me going, well anyway another shit poor job, “Walk the Line” is … “Final Cut” is the final track, and i just don’t fucking care, it has piano or something in the middle, fuck it.

This is what i would call some uninspired metal, it’s kind of ripping Trivium or something, but at least those boys have skill, this is just embarrassing. This is what i think… if you don’t know what to do, don’t add a guitar solo, don’t add a breakdown, don’t make a silly melodic chorus, just trash it and a make a new track, this album seems like they forage the woods for every bit of shit they could think, to stick in the freaking album, and just add some random guitar riffs to tie it all together, but it seems foraging for shit makes a shitty album, so if you start smelling something fishy, run for your lives.

What’s with me and metalcore, everytime i check a couple of albums for review, one for sure is metalcore…well that or hardcore, yeah, well besides my nagging, All That Remains is a pretty by the numbers metalcore, fast and hard with the oh so predictable clean chorus, i believe this is their second album, but to be honest it’s the first time i had the pleasure. So let’s have a looksee on “The Fall of Ideals”.

Well well, isn’t this the most “radio friendly” metalcore track I’ve heard in some time, if “This Calling” is not their single, my name isn’t fiend (it isn’t, but that’s beside the point hehehe), pure straight blasting metalcore, to a simple and catchy (yeah it rhymes) clean chorus, with some blasting underneath, that …well at least it gives some edge, next comes “Not Alone” and I’m already on that “oh damn are this guy really talking about how they are so miserable, they lost their girlfriend or whatnot” shit me, that’s so 90′s, well beat me with a stick if it isn’t almost identical with the last track, hell they both clock at about 3:30, funny, well both aren’t bad, more like, someone has done this better somewhere for sure, kind of thing.

“It Dwells in Me” is kinda weak on it’s knees, yeah because in this kind of music it doesn’t matter what you do between the chorus, if the chorus is catchy the music is fine, even though this one has some interesting guitar work followed up by some hardcore punching, maybe it’s not that weak, “We Stand” is nothing great, “Whispers (I Hear your)” is the same formula different lyrics, “The Weak Willed” has a little more hardcore bite, with no clean chorus, but they sure sugar coat it on the end… yeah giving a bit of after taste, “Six” pops up with the predictable blasting to a more clean track, with some sissy voice off, then building up to a some rock like whatever, it’s not that good, “Become the Catalyst” has a more interesting guitar solo, chorus sucks, “The Air That I Breathe” just sucks, “Empty Inside” is a patch work and again follows their formula to the letter, “Indictment” is again one by the numbers, nothing to add.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that i don’t like more clean stuff, or melodic, hell no, if it’s good, then i like it, but as i said before regarding metalcore, that have always need to put whatever (in this case some clean/melodic chorus and guitar solos) tend to limit the potential of the music, and that rarely turns up in a good thing, structure is fine, but don’t let the structure dictate what you sound like, hell 90% of their songs are start with blasting>melodic chorus>metalcore>melodic chorus>guitar solo>finish with a melodic chorus or slower hardcore blast, so yeah if your into As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage or any other meloish metalcore band, you might want to give it a go, for me great metalcore comes from the likes of Unearth.

Why am i picking this one up? well hehehe, after that review of By Night, i checked them out and found …Trendkill?, well it has 2 members of By Night and the Drummer from Anata, interesting, hummm, well they play a sort of hardcore meets metalcore (wait that sounded too bad to be true…), i guess but i can point out right away that they sound a lot like they are not from the same continent as you might aspect, if i didn’t check it out, i could have swore they were Americans, with all the good and bad that could come from it, so let’s have a look on “No Longer Buried”

Oh shit, this is… nothing especial… the album starts with “Judge Me Now” so i will, it’s not bad per say, it reminds me of a mixture of Hatebreed and Machine Head, its catchy but not to the point of infatuation, my initial feeling gets right on the money with “Dedication”, its very moshable and enjoyable just like Hatebreed, simplistic and straight to the point with some interesting touches outside of the straight up commercial hardcore, “Timeless Quality” is more of the same, mosh bouncy music, loads of screaming, “Break The Silence” yeah you guessed it right, more of the same, at least they changed it, with a bit more Hardcore, “One Step Closer” as some more bouncy riffage and some interesting guitar work, nice one, “Walking Dead” is almost straight hardcore, “Headshot” … seems like they are losing steam, it’s quite a boring hardcore track, “From The Beginning” humm, more of the same, it seems as it goes on, the album gets more hardcorish, I’m hopping for a group shout chorus on the next one hehehehe, “Nothing For Granted” , well not chorus shout outs, but pretty straight vanilla hardcore.

This actually feels like a striped down “By Night” Album, by stripped down, i don’t mean worse (but in this case it is), i mean they took much more things than the things they added, and it feels like it, a good try and enjoyable couple of listening, production wise its good, the guitars sound pretty hardcore, the drumming is…ok, the vocals are normal, the rest sucks hehehe, I’m kidding, well its a good effort and if your into this, you might as well give it a try.

Ahhh Unearth, the bastard child of metalcore, seems I’m one of those people that tend to look at metalcore with a critical eye, but Unearth is one of those bands that just doesn’t let me bash the genre to death, why? well the boys have skill, sure other bands have skill as well, but they have in my view, the skill required to play metalcore, they are not overly technical, but they show a prowess to explore the genre, that few seem to possess, so a new album, uhhh i hope it’s something good.

After having a go at “III: In The Eyes of Fire” one thing is certain this is heavier, darker and much more violent, and i say that in a good way, with all of this also comes something not that common with metalcore, it’s a more difficult listening, it lacks that immediate appeal, but it seems just like crack after a couple of listening you won’t need anything else, the album starts with “This Glorious Nightmare” and slap me silly if it isn’t just plain old Unearth even with the “oh we need to stop for a minute to insert some slower groovy shit”, its good…it’s really good, then comes “Giles” and this one really shines, heavy, more uncompromising, the vocals are tight as hell, same goes for the guitars, “March of the Mutes” comes next … and it is some good shit, catchy as hell, then “Sanctity of Brothers” that is basically thrash … hey the boys play some cool thrash hehehe, sure it does eventually go to the more “core” of metalcore, but its a great tune nonetheless, full of original riffing, then “The Devil Has Risen”, this one is quick and dirty, again going for a more aggressive thrash, then metalcore, loads of breakdowns, cool, “This Time Was Mine” has a very impressive chorus guitar/voice combo, that goes into a stop go, damn that’s cool too, “Unstoppable” what can i say, impressive, this album just doesn’t cut corners, even though the sound seems to follow patterns, they just keep adding new stuff to the mix, keeping the pace quick and the sound fresh, great work.

Now comes “So it Goes” this one sounds like 100% Unearth, but that’s until the 0:30 mark were they just start ripping, as with most of their tracks the guitar just drives it home, and this time with an impressive solo, “Impostors Kingdom” again speeding it up, this one is just angry, “Bled Dry” again a good track, and again it seems to work on the same formula that has been used throughout the album, but still, it sounds completely original, it has everything, I’m in awesomeness state, oh no the album is almost over… “Big Bear and the Hour of Chaos” closes with a golden key, an instrumental track, just the way i like them, short and sweet.

What can i say, I’m impressed, in the land of the un-original there seems to be originality?, Well maybe there is future for us all, sure the bands that tend to do great things are the ones less constrained by the genres, that do music for musics sake, if it fits in gothic, metalcore or techno, then so be it, sure they do have a tendency to flourish or flourishments, what do i mean by that?, well they sometimes put stuff in just to say “look at me i can just rip this shit up when everyone is playing another thing”, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and certainly you don’t need to do it that often and milk the damn thing, but that’s just my personal taste, this is an excellent album, border lining metalcore perfection, I’ve enjoyed it immensely, and it will remain on my listening library for a long time, so go on and fucking buy it.

Since good old Nebulous is out for every Meshuggah clone (he is such a zealot) I’m going to talk about another clone, why? because its phun with a “ph”, now Threat Signal comes from Canada, they play a sort of what Mnemic/Soilwork play on tech inspired metalcore with touches of Meshuggah like riffin, yes because Meshuggah above all else are an institution, and it seems plagiarism is a form of tribute, so lets check this one out.

“Under Reprisal”, works much like a Mnemic album, it’s actually quite eerie, going from full fledged guitar driven in a almost math shredding to a full out melodic chorus, is it good? well i said it before and i say it again, i have no problem with melodic chorus, if it’s done properly with some good judgment, some musics turn out great because they have a melodic chorus, but pleaseeeee you don’t need to put one in every song, that’s just dumb and ruins most of them, and that shows for sure in this album (not as bad as Mnemic but bad anyway), so let’s have a look, first track is “Rational Eyes”, quite good almost stop go riffing going to a clean vocal chorus that ruins it… next one is “As I Destruct” almost the same formula as before, the riff just changes a bit, but the clean vocals kills me again, they just don’t sound great, almost Mnemic bad, “One Last Breath” is more thrashlike, and it dies in the beach again… guess what… the chorus, but the rest is actually some good thrash/metalcore combo.

“Seeing Red” is a more metalcore/groove metal, until now i think it’s the best one, that is until the chorus, what a bastard band, well at least its short and sweet and drives to a funny sounding stop go/weird riffage, well not to bad overall, “A New Beginning” is next and…it sounds like “new” In Flames or Pain hehehe, funny, and not too bad, next is “Counter Balance” and… it’s actually a winner, it’s not that aggressive, it’s like… well the chorus sucks but at least there is plenty of interesting things in between, “Inane” just sounds like the first track but only slower (weird…), well it dies half way through it, but not that bad, “Now” has some blasting, uhhh, chorus sucks again, “Faceless” its actually better, it seems the more the album goes, the more it gets better, “Haunting” is also good, much better overall, and now the album is over with the appropriately named “When all is Said and Done” and its actually good.

Humm, not a single really good track, never seen so much bad clean vocal chorus since the last Mnemic album, clone anyone? or actually trying to add something new?, it seems they do a better job, the sound is just tighter and therefore more enjoyable, even though they seem to suffer from the same unexplainable need to put some clean vocal chorus in every fucking song, and driving home the same idiotic formula, hell change a bit, mix it around, grabbing the things that made things like melodic death metal or metalcore successful, and remove the hardcore/death in exchange with a more math/groove metal, is good and all, but don’t abuse it … but i guess even though it lacks originality it strives for quality, even though its like if they find a good groove riff they just milk it every time, and that’s a bit boring, i guess my only beef is really fear factories Christian Olde Wolbers production, it sucks, you suck, fear factory last album sucks and i can see your hand all over this one, i just hope it’s just you and not the band.

By Night is one of the bands that I include in the Meshuggah wannabes pot [like Textures and, mostly, Coprofago]. They are in the pot, but not as deep as Textures and, surely, not in the same way as Coprofago [the Meshuggah clones]. Well, to be honest, they are barely in the pot, and that’s why I like them. They have Meshuggah influences, sure they do, but the overall is way beyond that. Maybe is their melodic side, I don’t know. There’s something in this guys that’s really special.

With their first record they got my attention. I didn’t expect much from a possible second record. The truth is: they did a great record. In the beginning I didn’t dig it very much, but the first song was really cool and I gave this record a second chance. Hell I even gave a third and a fourth chance. Next thing I knew, I was addicted.

“A New Shape of Desperation” is a very melodic record [yeah they're Swedish! It seems melody is in their DNA] with great guitar work, a bit of calc / math metal [fuckin Meshuggah riffage] and a nice production ["Destroy Erase Improve" style but more up-to-date].

First track “It Starts Within” is a small intro that leads into the first song.

“The Truth Is Sold” has a great riff. When I first played this track it just blowed me away. My favorite track, no doubt. Headbanging all the way.

“People Like You” is next in line and is a blast. The pace is increased and my headbanging too. This one is a heavy motha’fucker. In the middle section we got a cool heavy groove, Meshuggah style ["Nothing" era] far from rip-off though [for those who like Meshuggah rip-off clones, I recommend Coprofago].

Next track is “Through Ashes We Crawl”. This track starts with a more melodic vibe but soon we fall into some heavy riffage. Meshuggah style once again.

“Same Old Story” follows and the heavy grooves are back. The chorus has a cool melodic riff. It reminds me “Descent” from Fear Factory‘s “Obsolete” album [check out Soundcult's review to Fear Factory latest work. Did I said "work"? I meant "crap"... latest crap... latest piece of crap... piece of latest... pile of... Ahhhhh crap. Metallica better release their new album really soon, I'm trying hard to forget Fear Factory's crappy album. You know what they say: Fight Fire With Fire ^^ ]. Anyway… Another nice track.

“Dead Eyes See No Future” is next and it’s kind of an instrumental track. Slow melodic riffs really well conceived. Really really nice track.

“Walls of Insecure” starts and is probably my second favorite track. The pace is back up-to-speed and we even got a little blast beat on the drums. Really cool section, mixing this kind of Hardcore playing with a bit of Death Metal. In the middle we have a melodic section with a guitar solo. It fits like a glove. Near the end we have another of those Meshuggah heavy grooves. Really powerfull stuff.

“Idiot” is a 50 second track and is like By Night went berserk. This track could almost be an Hate Eternal [check out Soundcult's review] track, but with a more hardcore feel to it, can you believe that? Sounds a bit out of place, but, I’m a Death Metal freak so…

“Forsaken Love” starts with a cheesy riff. Didn’t dig that at all. The next section is more interesting, Meshuggah strikes again! I’m re-considering the “take By Night of the Meshuggah wannabes pot” decision. Hmmm, but there it is. It’s influenced but has something different. Something that makes it a By Night riff.

OK, “Cursed by the Thought” is another of my favorite tracks. It starts with old Fear Factory riffing style but it’s just an intro. Then By Night’s melodic side steps in once again. Very nice. Heavy riffs but very melodic. I think this might be By Night’s strongest skill. The chorus has another heavy melodic riff. This track has a very nice epic ambiance. It’s this kind of tracks that make all the difference in a record.

The record finishes up with “Time Is Running Out”. Another instrumental. I do not think that this track fits very well with the record. Maybe it’s the piano parts, maybe is the sad feel to it.

OK, so, overall, this is a great record. By Night really surprised me with this second work. I think they now have all that it takes to be a great band. All the conditions to stick around for a long time are created.

Check out this epic song ^^

Amazing drumming, amazing riffs, amazing production, amazing record, amazing everything. Well, to good to be true. Never understood those press releases where they told us that everything is amazing and the best and whatever. I’ll be the judge of that, if I may…

We got eight tracks. Two interludes, so we got six tracks.

Press play and we have the first interlude “Jezebel”. Skip.

The Ladder starts playing with “Close The Window”. Hmmm let’s see. Normally I would not comment the production of a new band first CD. But, since they let us know in advance how great the production is, let me say that I’ve heard demos with better production. The guitars are so muddy that the only thing we can understand is the palm muted chords. They must be playing marvelous things on the other strings but it’s all noise. The drums sound like plastic drums. Really “amazing production” indeed.
Let’s see the song. Coprofago comes to my mind as soon as this one starts. Those Meshuggah wannabe riffs are so old fashion by now. We have a solo section in the middle of the track. Never mind, that’s no solo. A ten year old could play that melody. Damn, I’m almost sure I had read that the guitars were “pretty technical”.

“Movement In The Treeline” is next in line. More Coprofago / Meshuggah wannabe riffs. Then comes the noisy part. The technical part that we can’t understand jack shit. Thank GOD “the production is amazing”, or else, how knows what I would be listening now. Probably static.

“And They Kept Whispering…” is another interlude. Great! Because you have few songs we have to listen to stupid interludes.

“…Cycles…” follows. Oh no, more Coprofago stop-go riffs. How many riffs can you do holding just that power chord? The middle part is kind a cool tough. Then it just mellows out. Weird mix. Stop-go riffs with Primordial [black / folk / lol] ambiance. Then the noise returns. When I say noise I mean “amazing tech riffs”. That crystal clear production really helps.

OK, it’s almost done. “…Yet They Kept Plugged”. Why oh why?. This track has some violin – or sampled violin. That’s perfect. Math / noise / death / folk and now Celtic influences. I confess I didn’t see that one coming -_-

“Failure” is next. It all makes perfect sense now. This ultra tech riff sounds like Biohazard in a bad hair day. This was the first track without that Coprofago riff in the beginning. Cool. To bad that I don’t like metalcore, otherwise this might be an average song.

The end of this “amazing record” [label's own words, as all of my quotes] comes with “Recall”. Coprofago once again ehehe That’s great. Five tracks with the same beginning. That must be original in some way ^^. Well, this is the track that is available to download, and, lucky us, that is the nicest track.

Overall, this is not a bad effort for this new band. Take this review as a reminder that you are not as great as you want us to believe. I’ll wait for the new LP hoping you’ll be a little more honest and humble next time. Cheers!

P.S.: Very nice cover, by the way -_-

Ohh Dear Lord, i’m tackling again the metalcore genre, well at least the kids from God Forbid are somewhat original and have a knack for tasty songs, yes metalcore, but just like nu-metal it doesn’t mean necessarily bad music, just that it seems to be the genre with the most mass appeal and therefore there seems to be a tendency for bad bands to flock to were the “appeal” is, anyway God Forbid have a good track record, especially because even though they aren’t the world’s greatest they do tend to make good albums, and as we can see later on, this one is a keeper.

Humm just like Mastodon, God Forbid went for a sort of epic album, with focus on the day to day living in america and it’s probable future, sure i would think going for a more bizarre future than one filled with maggots and wastelands would be a plus on the originality scale, nevertheless it’s an epic, and i’m a sucker for epics, anyway it sure is refreshing comparing to the “riff raff” they are in, were going for the “easy riff” and the “oh i lost my tooth brush and i’m lost in a sea of confusion, why doesn’t god love me, why did my girlfriend left me?” … hell I’m sure I’m plagiarism someone, like every epic, it has it’s twists and turns, so i’ll try to point out my favorite “turns”.

The album starts well enough with “The End of the World” that is a good album starter, then comes a more God Forbidish track with “Chains of Humanity” followed up with “Into the Wasteland” and one thing i can add right there is that the pace is really good, good track, after good track, (i still have nightmares with the latest in flames album) the album goes on with a couple of more gems like “Divinity” or “Crucify your Beliefs”, even when they slow things down we see the point and it seems to be on the right place (too much yelling and walls of sounds have killed perfectly good albums).

I’m giving God Forbid a clean bill of health, for one, they sure don’t like the state of things and we can all relate to that, for second, yeah, sure, it’s metalcore, and if your in that genre, you aren’t good enough, because, i guess if you did something extraordinary you wouldn’t be a metalcore band, and with all the things attached to that “ohh so charming label”, they did a good job, hell they did a great job, the album runs smooth, it’s heavy (in a metalcore way), it’s catchy and balanced, so i guess…well, i feel strange saying this, buying this album is actually a good idea, hehehehe enjoy ^^

(as a side note i said “metalcore” only 5 times, i must be out of my mind)

Death Pop Romance follows almost every time a very straightforward formula, pummeling tech/death metal, building up to an almost certain melodic chorus (normally with the extra electronics showing up at about that time to give that extra softness) all of this evolving around a sort of pop sensitivity, so nothing new, but its quite entertaining, and much like Fear Factory don’t expect too much expertise or technical stuff, well in this kind of music that would be a understatement, this is fuel for all the nu-metal/melodic death metal fans, i can point out some of the tracks, but i won’t, because i want to be a bit of a bastard, hehehe, anyway all the tracks are pretty good and the chorus part tends to have a nice balance between the metal and the harmony and that’s always nice (don’t you just hate Mnemic).

Well hell, if your into “new” In Flames, Mnemic or most of this “new age” tech metal, Raunchy are for sure one of the best, sure it’s a bit plain and it feels a bit uncomfortable, since they might be talking about very sad or angry things but it doesn’t get that much sentiment from me, its a bit difficult to relate to it, well maybe i need to break a bit of all these sleepless night listening to Norwegian Black Metal, hehehe, well you can listen on the mp3, it’s all there, if you like it, buy the album.
