Ohh dear lord Ministry is back…wait that sounded kind of blasphemous, maybe that’s just me, any way encase you don’t know, Ministry is a Industrial Rock/Metal band, i say Industrial because they pretty much created the genre (even though they didn’t run with it), well before I start ranting about Rio Grande Blood, I’ll just add that although I’m somewhat a “fan”, i was never engaged by Ministry, the music is overly simplistic for my personal taste, it’s weird since i tend to think of them as a great band…

So let’s get into it with “Rio Grande Blood”, after some silly George Bush Jr speech, we get into it, ohhh how some things change and how other things stay the same, i think the drum machine and guitar sounds exactly the same as it was 10 years ago, pristine hehehe, filled with samples, and some shouting vocals from Al, this is some old school Ministry, with some twists and turns and a pretty interesting guitar solo, not bad at all, then comes “Señor Peligro” and again a bit of the same, it actually builds up really well to a hardcorish trashy metal, that finishes interestingly again with a funky guitar solo, good one, “Gangreen” starts up with some marine inspired drill until it goes on “Ministry” mode, damn even the double bass seems old school, don’t know if it’s on purpose but it actually sounds great, but the song although funky it’s basically a continuous 6 min loop, then comes up “Fear (Is Big Business)” and its a slow burn industrial track… well until it goes into a thrash overdrive.

“Lies Lies Lies” is another hardcorish track with a lot of sound samples, a bit predictable and with a over-abuse of the obvious chorus, well “The Great Satan”is next and it’s an ok track, Ministry styled blasting and guitar work, “Yellow Cake” is a distorted sampled track, if the use of distorted sound wasn’t so overused, it would have been better, “Palestina” is a bit more of the same, not bad, just the same thing, then “Ass Clown” starts up slow to a more eclectic track with a nice groove to it and another great guitar solo, seems the good tracks are the ones with a solo…just coincidence i guess, “Khyber Pass” wraps things up and quite nicely i might say with a large build up with a female vocal under a toned down beat to a Ministry groove, then mixing the two things together (predictable are we), so that’s about it.

Oh I might be getting mellow or something, but it’s actually not as bad as i was thinking, sure it tends to drag and the fact that it feels like looped/sampled/drum-machine music doesn’t help, ohh and all the Anti-Bush … Anti-War stuff is fine and dandy but all the way trough the album the same old theme and the same sounding music tends to…drag (deja-vu anyone?), well this one is difficult, i would say if your a fan, check it out, its worth it, if your not, then go watch a movie or something heheh

From sea huntin to mountain tracking, what can i say, new album from Mastodon, incase you don’t know Mastodon, let me tell you, the name fits the music, their sound is like the prehistoric mammoth like animal, you know, big and hairy, scary tusks, well they play a kind of Technical Heavy Metal band, that mix loads of different genres and styles, from Progressive Rock/Metal to Thrash Metal, from Hardcore to Power Metal, from Sludge Metal to Southern Rock, with memorizing odd ball jazz like drumming (their best feature in a long list of excellent features) and complex heavy guitar riffing, so a new album is here “Blood Mountain”, I’m wondering how it will fare against their critically acclaimed (including myself) last album “Leviathan”.

Gee, like with a couple of other bands, it’s difficult to talk about every single track, since they are so diverse. but I’ll give a go, “The Wolf is Loose” starts things off, and actually sounds a bit like a track from their last album, fast paced thrashing, really catchy, yeah i should note that most Mastodon tracks are above all else really catchy, not because of lyrics or chorus, but because of the drumming and riffage, now back on track with “Crystal Skull”, now this is a bit different, but again very close to the sound of Leviathan, with that freaky astounding drumming from hell and the groovy guitar work, “Sleeping Giant” is something new, again a Mastodon like delivery, slow paced track beautifully carved from progressive metal, eerie…

“Capillarian Crest” is like a mix and mash of genres, never letting down always throwing new stuff in, always in that neat Mastodon technical package, mind blowing track, “Circle of Cysquatch” brings us back to more heavy stuff, drumming going all over the place and a really hookie riffage and a hardcore finisher, just bring it home, “Bladecatcher” is a pure instrumental track and it doesn’t fail, funky as shit, “Colony of Birchmen” is slower paced, with a freaky chorus, even though in parts sounds like a mixture between power metal and progressive rock, it’s actually again a very enticing track.

“Hunters of the Sky” is one of those “experimental groove” tracks, chorus is catchy as hell, “Hand of Stone” is an already a classical Mastodon delivery with loads of different things popping up everywhere “This Mortal Soil” has a bit of an intro into a what i can only describe as some kind of progressive rock, kinda weird, “Siberian Divide” continues with this end of the album eerie feeling, just now with a bit more bite, “Pendelous Skin” is the last track and again a instrumental, completely the opposite from the first one, this one sounds like the sound of the air rushing through the mountains, building up to a music resembling some distorted Soundgarden track, very eerie, sounds like the guy climbing the mountain got himself screwed or eaten by bears.

Mastodon is Mastodon, and as one can expect they delivered, changing to a major label doesn’t seem to affect them too much, also i might point that again like in the album “Leviathan”, “Blood Mountain” is a concept piece, with a back story, and therefore it all makes even more sense, great album, even better delivery, if you like good, strange, hard music, you have a obligation to check this out.

Uhhh weeee, i’ll make this short and super sweet, Weezer are Weezer and i must say they have changed, there’s something about clean and nice rock that just brings a smile to my face, sure with time one would suspect they would get old, but their pop”ed” hard rock seems to still thrive, the last album was a bit of a strange affair as well as a 4 years (10 months in Meshuggah time) of wait for a new album seems a bit of a stretch, so here it is, let’s see if it will make me into a believer. The album starts with “Beverly Hills“, actually one of my favorites in the album, sounds gay as hell, and it’s fucking depressing, just my kind of thing…i guess hehehe, so anyway then comes “Perfect Situation” humm nice track, sounds like an oldie, classic Weezer, now “This is Such a Pity” uhhh experimenting are we? well it’s kinda nice with all the synth work, with a big build up, “Hold Me” is a boring soft track almost qualifies as a filer, “Peace” another softer track, then “We are all on drugs” ahhh now that’s better, rock and roll, “The Damage in Your Heart” and “Pardon Me” are ok…i guess, I’m getting a bit of a buzz but nothing too deep, I’m half way through and the album seems to be dying on me after that oh so good start.

“My Best Friend” humm more deja vu tracks, “The Other Way” well this one sucks, “Freak Me Out” uhhh another bad one, “Haunt You Every Day”, well there goes the album, fiend goes for the line, he shoots and he scores, right into the gutter, hurray for me.

So this one is giving me mixed feelings, i kinda like Weezer, they do ok stuff and reminds me of a time when i was a virgin and needed some soothing rock tunes to calm my raging hormones, nowadays i use sugary drinks and paranoid dementia as a substitute, well anyway those times are way gone (someone should point that out to the guys on Weezer) and so in the end, i guess they have a couple of good tunes, but it seems in the last 4 years there is nothing really new or at least really good, i know, i know, creating intelligent pop lyrics is a pain in the ass, so this one is for itunes, listen to it and buy the ones you like, the rest is better on the gutter, i guess i believe in fucking shit.

Ohhh yeah baby those horses need some education, well i have one of those love/hate relationships with Rob Zombie, well more hate than love, but that’s another story, there’s a new album, and in case you don’t know, Rob Zombie, plays a kind of weird “sampled ridden” glam rock, it sounds like redneck music to me, how i do miss White Zombie, well that’s a even longer story.

This Educated Horses is the most laid back, groovy album i have ever heard….that would be true if i was a coke addict trying to sell my ass on the street, this album is a disgrace, it’s basically a money machine, everyone does it, but most do something like “the best of Mariah Query” or “Michael Jacson’s how time flies, when your with children”, doing a brand new album is not that common, i know, i know since you started making movies your low on cash, but please do some work, there are people paying for this shit, they have children to feed, think of the children, just like Michael, why don’t you think of the children

What have you done? There isn’t anything in this album i can hold on, not one decent music, if you wanted to make a voice book about zombies, death or american witches, just say it on the cover, because this is not music, this is you talking with some annoying background sound that just goes on and on and on, hell even your voice sounds lazy, you are lazy bastard, everyone loves a bastard, but a lazy one? fuck you, and fuck your dumb ass music.

p.s.1 Your movies are great, i have an idea, do like Jennifre Lopes and move to the movies permanently…what?, wait, she didn’t?…well she sucked on both jobs anyway.

p.s.2 The names are all correctly spelled, the fact that actual people have this names is purely coincidental ^^

One thing about nin is that Mr Trent Reznor, sure take it’s time to make an album, when a new album pops up i tend to think… nin? i actually don’t remember your last album, not that i’m anal about how long it takes to make a decent album, but i tend to associate time with quality, and this is certainly true with nin, the albums are always of top quality, the music is always crisp, the production superb, well we have a new album, let’s see if indeed it has teeth.

The Album starts with “All the Love in the World” a build up song, that only Mr Reznor can make, it builds up to a full fledged rock piano/guitar combo, although a nice one, repeating “why do you get all the love in world” ad infinity, is far from engaging or original, are you that jealous? what is your reason for getting jealous? pretencios bitching is not that interesting, lets have a look at the next one “You Know What You Are”, it sound very close to “Starfuckers Inc”, its a distorted guitar rock tune, its good, “The Collector” comes next, a bit of a confusing song, not much point of interest, next the single “The Hand that Feeds” very dance pop, then comes “Love is Not Enough” again a build up song, again with highly distorted guitars to pull the chorus.

“Every Day is Exactly the Same” comes up and its probably one of the best on the album, not because it’s awesome, more because it drives on the more common nin formula, danceable rhythm, bleak lyrics and catchy chorus, great, but nothing new, the title track “With Teeth” comes up, and again the nin formula, a little heavier industrial maybe, but just the same thing, then comes up “Only” maybe the most danceable track of the album, its not bad, it’s quite catchy and therefore appealing, “Getting Smaller” is a more by numbers guitar driven rock, a little bit refreshing, nice tune, that lays the ground for “Sunspots” another slow driven track much like “Every Day is Exactly the Same”, only worse, it just doesn’t sound that good, it sounds just like any track from a dozen experimental pop bands, “The Line Begins to Blur” another slow one, sounds like it could have come from The Fragile, then comes the useless interlude “Beside You in Time” that drives to the last track “Right Where it Belongs”, that although interesting it’s nothing especial.

It’s one of those things, even thought the music is really good, it doesn’t seem new, it doesn’t have that fresh feeling, the lyrics are around the same angst lyrics that a million bands do and that nin always done, sure it sounded wickedly bleak 10 year ago (and that’s a good thing in this kind of music), now it just sounds boring and since we all know he’s life is pretty good, what’s his problem?, damn bitch, if no one loves you and you spend your time drinking and doing drugs, its because you are a fuck up, a 40 year old fuck up, and although being kind of sad it sure as hell doesn’t revolt me, nowadays if you get into drugs or alcohol or mushrooms its your fucking fault, if no one loves you, its your fucking fault, however if your a millionaire that has a really good life singing about how life is bleak, you are a hypocrite, whatever the reason may be, in my eyes you’ll still look foolish, anyway the music is of good quality, but its basically more of the same, as i said before the things i value more in music are quality and originality, quality is here, but originality is 10 years too late.

A 2001 album? Based on a HBO series? Screw it, Jack Black is fucking hilarious, and not a bad musician to boot, well maybe I’ll give a bigger insight, Tenacious D is composed of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, both are fucking funny and as such i guess they got the opportunity to make a HBO Show, first some shorts and then 6 full episodes, that showed the Tenacious D tribulations to get famous, even thought it was fucking hilarious, each show had a open-mike kind of thing were they would play a couple of songs, most of those became this album, the funny (at least for me) thing is that not only the comedy was priceless, the music was funky and funny as well.

The album is basically rock, well more a funky upbeat kind of rock, it does have some touches of hard rock/metal, folk music, country rock, it’s said that this would fit in the comedy rock genre, i don’t know about the genre, but it is basically rock with Jack Black’s comedy flare, the album is quite the easy listening, it has a bunch of comic intermissions, including and insightful commentary about Cock Pushups, as well as the most powerful singing tool since Yodeling? is Inward Singing, yeah that’s right, these pearls of wisdom combined with freaking hilarious tracks like, well, all the tracks ^^ hehehe, “Tribute”, “Wonderboy”, “Fuck Her Gently”, “Kyle Quit” and “Karate”, are for sure my favorites.

The perfect album? Hell Yeah, if your laughing every 5 minutes, who cares about the music, can i talk about the grooviness or the actual engaging rock?, yeah it’s good clean stuff, heheh if your into rock and have a gross out humor this is for sure, a must buy, now i’m gonna relax and try and do some Cock Pushups.

Seems the only original member was it’s most creative and energetic member, Damon Che drumming is for sure the driving force, everything revolves around it’s arrangements, without him it wouldn’t be the same, so how does “World Class Listening Problem” fares with time, quite good as it seems, there are still no vocals, but who cares, music is number one, and some times having vocals is worse than just jamming, and this is a jamming album, whatever the style of music you like, this is simply a delight, i won’t continue my rant, you’ll just have to listen to it, hehehe.

Are we listening to perfection? well the only way i can judge this is by their previous efforts, and it does seem they went a little bit safe, with what they know people would like, is it a bad thing?, noooo, well … maybe, at least for me Don Caballero is supposed to be adventurous to surprise me with weird arrangements, to lick my ears, to make me enjoy and think about music at the same time, and even thought i really enjoyed it, it didn’t made me forget about their later albums, well anyway, its a great album and i hope you people will really like it too (i promise it rocks, hehehe).

One can always enjoy to a even bigger degree any kind of music if you get a show with it, much like Kiss, the show is a nice complement to the music, now Mudvayne releases a new album, and … WHAT no make up? So does that mean that before you guys were just copying all the acts that use a lot of props and make up, or are you just selling out and going for a more clean look, you guys… well anyway, what could you expect after their last album being a one hit wonder, and we all know those kinds of albums don’t promise much.

So Lost and Found is here, i really don’t know if i can’t talk about this album, i just feel betrayed …. ohhh good whyyyyy … well now that that’s over, this one is a “stupify” album (you’ll get it later on), it starts with a more mature Mudvayne meets “the ohhhh so popular but ohh so shitty” Drowning Pool with “Determined”, humm “Pushing Through” humm this reminds me of something … ohh yes recycling old Mudvayne songs and put a more… likable chorus, does that count as being sell outs?, i get so confused, maybe it’s because i heard the same thing 6 years ago, but 6 year ago it was fresh and kinda interesting…

So i skip ahead to “Happy?” (is it me or this fucking album is a fucking relapse), as a rule of thumb, if the name of the music is anywhere the most important part of the chorus, then the music sucks, except if your Korn, then it doesn’t matter since they all suck, “IMN” goes the same way, “Fall Into Sleep” … i bet this one is their second single, more plain shit… well at least its a bit better then “Happy?” that or I’m losing my mind, “Rain. Sun. Gone.” well it’s the first song i saw with that many periods, and what do i learn? everything goes to distract you from listening to shit, next up is “Choices” appropriate since I’m thinking of cutting this one short, “Choices” is another washed up, ditto on “Forget To Remember”, “TV Radio”, “Just”…shit the rest is irrelevant.

Just tell me, how many times can you play the same thing?, i actually liked their first album, but i don’t know what this is, well i know, it’s the same thing a hundred bands are playing, its washed out for the masses, its simplified for plain consumption, i don’t expect all bands to try to excel in every album (there are some exceptions to my last statement) but i expect if you are going to change, to try and do it better, make it interesting, don’t just go all Korn on me and just play the same shit over and over again, just like a vinyl, letting it get worse and worse each time around, well anyway if your into Drowning Pool, Disturbed or Korn, then you can give this one a go.

Well we all know what Gorillaz is … Blur famed Damon Albarn’s Pet Project, that turned bigger than, well, Blur, hehehe does that make you think, or what?, anyways after about 4 year, her comes a new album, full of promises and well a bit more of the same, Gorillaz sound is far from being stale, it ranges from the alternative pop/rock, through things like hip-hop, funk, gloom*, to some forms of electronic i guess, even thought it seems the main concern is finding out the exact age of Noodle, their underage Japanese guitarist, even thought it is a fictional character…

Well off with their heads, and lets have a look at the music, overall the album seems more focused than their debut album, even thought the feel is the same, “happy bummed” music, some of the tracks borderline self indulgent like “O Green World” and some of the fillers, but when the really good tracks do come, they are surprisingly fresh, seems Damon Albarn was really the man behind the show, tracks like “Dirty Harry”, “Feel Good Inc” or “All Alone” are excellent, and there is even time for some surprises like the old school dance music* from “Dare” or the electro funk* on “White Light”.

This one thought album to talk about, very different stuff happening all over, so can one listen to it on one go? well sure, it beats listening to radio if that’s the point, and quality wise is top notch, i just feel its a bit more of the same, their debut album had that unfinished feeling to it, like it’s a “side project kind of thing”, but with “Demon Days”, its much more balanced, even thought its a bit confusing and mind numbing at times, with all this different music coming from everywhere, in the end it’s ok, yeah i said ok, if your into Gorillaz or you like eclectic albums this one is surely for you, just don’t be fooled by the singles.

(* Note: I Need To Stop Inventing Stuff Up )

Kaiser Chiefs, well well well, play a very sparkly british pop/punk/rock with some help from synthesizers, so this is happy happy music for the happy happy people, how do i know them? were else, “Predict A Riot” was a constant on radio, and i’m not that a big listener but did get it a couple of times, these acts seem to be rolling like crazy, Franz Ferdinand does come to mind, but i have that tingly feel between my legs that this two aren’t all the bunch, so i drink a cool orange juice to get that happy happy feeling, before i listen to this album, am i going to see any riots?

The album starts with “Everyday I Love You Less And Less”, it has that feel of a jingle, quite catchy, even though this is a downer music i like it, it has a lot of synth in the mix, then comes the “beat to death” “Predict A Riot”, this is their trademark track, it has all, their lalala’s the super synth catchy chorus, and the downbeat lyrics, really nice and i still find it amusing, then comes “Modern Way”, with a conga or cowbell start hehehe, funny shit is it me or the songs don’t have anything to do with the lyrics, so this one is one of their more calm ones, nice, then comes “Na Na Na Na Naa“, well it’s na na na alright, another jingle like songs, a little bit silly, again loads of synth, “You Can Have It All” another slow one, “Oh My God” bring one of those…i think this is a cover from someone, well a little bit boring.

“Born To Be A Dancer” is again a little bit devoid, not that catchy, “Saturday Night” again a bit of a let down, this all seem to be unfinished and unbalanced, “What Did I Ever Give You?” carols? this album is getting a bit boring, songs don’t seem to have the same flare and imagination than on the start, “Time Honoured Tradition” ohh another jingle like song, well its a bit better, but not as much as the first songs of the album, “Caroline, Yes”, seems like another cover song, not that good, and again uninspired, last track “Team Mate” brings another slow calm song to finish it off, nothing really to add about this one.

Well kaiser for sure are a radio band, since a full length album seems to be too much for them, they seem to run out of steam, and tried to make up in the end … badly, the first part of the album is great and really catchy, but the rest is a shame, with really uninterestedly weak songs, so if you like itunes, buy yourself the first 4 tracks and you’ll be really happy happy (actually 3 of those are free downloads online, why is that?), or else …. just buy a used copy.

Since like almost all punk albums, tracks come short and fast, “1997-2004″ is a big album, with 19 tracks, so instead of going 1 on 1 i’ll just highlight my favorites ^_^ hehehe, well “Crash Pow” is new to me, i don’t have all their catalog, but really good hardcore/punk almost no electronic, then “Pulse” i already know, heheh high drum&bass meets punk, this is the shit, that and the “Blink 182” type catchy lyrics in a japanese pronunciation, ohhh it’s so much funnnn, “Godd Girl” for the rock breakbeats and happy happy lyrics, “Midi Surf” its almost 100% drum&bass/guitar work, very punk in feeling with everyone screaming along.

“Chaos Step” with the house samples and the almost Pitchshifter feeling, rock meets electronic, “Gaga Life” this one just screams Mad Capsule Markets, it has all the things they are good at, Punk Music over Electronic beats and of course catchy chorus (probably my favorite), “Bit Crusherrrr” for it’s ridiculous/funny lyrics with the nu-metal feeling (like they are making fun of the sound…hell they are screaming Bit Crusherrrr some 30 times), “Fly High” is like “Gaga Life” all over again, ohhh so sweet, and that’s about it.

Anyone with a moniker like The Mad Capsule Markets, should be funny, well the musics have a lot of punk, they mix and mash, but the underlying feel and play is punk, the high use of electronic and samples, just enhances their music, and makes it stand apart from the crowd, i’m not much of a punk fan, but i do enjoy the mad capsules, because they do bring something new to the table, and i do love from time to time some nonsense music just because it’s fun, so if you like punk or wanna listen to something a little bit odd, then give this one a try, you won’t regret it.

I had no idea what to expect from Rebel Meets Rebel. I was only driven to listen to it due to Dimebag’s participation. OK, so what in the hell is Rebel Meets Rebel?

First of all. This is not Pantera alike. Forget about it. Sure there are some riffs that could be Pantera material – it deserves a listen or two just for that.
After several plays, I consider this a very fun record. Yep! I never thought I would like Rebel Meets Rebel. I thought I would play this one a few times and that’s it. Actually, I found myself enjoying the album.

Rebel Meets Rebel has a very cool / relaxed vibe. I can almost see Dime’s happy as hell face playing this stuff and joking all around!
So… we have some Dimebag riffs mixed with country stuff. This sounds better then you think. We also have some piano and violin parts, here and there, transporting you directly inside a Texas saloon! Yeah the Cowboys from Hell are back!
Some songs are less strong and someway cheesy, but overall, the best songs prevail and make this a balanced record.

This was a very nice surprise for me as a Pantera / Dimebag Darrell’s fan. I can only thank Vinnie Paul for sharing Rebel Meets Rebel with all of us.

“Nothin’ to Lose” is the first track and RmR’s single. Check it out. The song starts off with the sounds of David and Dimebag playing slot machines. Don’t know who’s humping the porno chick tough ^^
